In today's world, sustainability is more important than ever. As architects and designers, we have a responsibility to create spaces that are not only beautiful but also environmentally friendly. By incorporating sustainable design principles into our projects, we can reduce our carbon footprint and create healthier, more resilient homes.

Key Elements of Sustainable Design:

  1. Energy Efficiency:

    • Energy-Efficient Appliances: Choose appliances with Energy Star certification to reduce energy consumption.

    • High-Performance Insulation: Proper insulation can significantly reduce heating and cooling costs.

    • Renewable Energy Sources: Explore options like solar panels or geothermal energy to power your home.

  2. Water Conservation:

    • Water-Efficient Fixtures: Install low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets to conserve water.

    • Rainwater Harvesting: Collect rainwater for irrigation and other household uses.

    • Xeriscaping: Design drought-tolerant landscapes that require minimal water.

  3. Sustainable Materials:

    • Recycled Materials: Use recycled materials like reclaimed wood or recycled steel.

    • Locally Sourced Materials: Support local businesses and reduce transportation emissions.

    • Non-Toxic Materials: Choose paints, finishes, and building materials that are free of harmful chemicals.

  4. Indoor Air Quality:

    • Ventilation: Ensure proper ventilation to remove pollutants and maintain healthy indoor air quality.

    • Non-Toxic Finishes: Use low-VOC paints and finishes to reduce indoor air pollution.

    • Green Plants: Incorporate indoor plants to improve air quality and create a calming atmosphere.

By prioritizing sustainable design, we can create homes that are not only beautiful but also environmentally responsible. We encourage you to consider these principles when planning your next home project.

Let's build a sustainable future, one home at a time.

Rachel Waldron

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
