The Heart of the Home: Kitchen Renovation Tips and Trends

Hey Waldron Designs crew! Today, let's dive into the kitchen, your home's heart. If a renovation is on your mind, we've got the scoop on modern layouts, chic appliances, and the art of balancing style and functionality.

We broke a few kitchen standard layout rules here in order to focus more on how this couple used their kitchen!

1. Layout Love: Embracing the Modern Flow

Open layouts connect your kitchen seamlessly with dining and living areas—creating a hub for family and friends.

These layouts also provide opportunity for accessible design, ensuring all your family and guests can use the space comfortably.

2. Islands and Peninsulas: The MVPs of Modern Kitchens

Transform your kitchen with a multitasking island or peninsula—extra storage, casual nooks, it does it all.

3. Appliance Adventures: Sleek, Smart, Sustainable

Choose appliances that look stunning and make life easier—smart, energy-efficient, and sleek designs. Remember to include healthy ventilation and work with an HVAC specialist if you’re adding/changing the air flow!

4. Balance in Design: Where Aesthetics Meets Functionality

Craft your kitchen like a story, not just with the eye but with purpose. Ensure it blends harmoniously with your home.

5. Lighting Magic: Illuminating Your Culinary Canvas

Optimal lighting isn't just about fixtures; it's the art of hidden solutions—strategically placed lights for aesthetics and functionality. Will you use dramatic fixtures, or let the light itself create the drama? Discretion vs. Flamboyance

Remember that lighting is more than just a function of task, but an influence on our well-being.

6. Storage Solutions: The Clutter Conquerors

Organize strategically by categorizing items based on use frequency. Smart storage solutions make everything accessible and tidy.

7. Color Chronicles: From Neutrals to Bold Statements

Let colors tell your family's story. Whether calming neutrals or vibrant hues, your kitchen sets the tone for memories. Check our post on Harmonizing Hues throughout the home.

Remember, a kitchen isn't just for cooking; it's for creating memories. As you renovate, let your kitchen reflect the warmth of your family.

Happy renovating!

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
