Getting Started with Waldron Designs

At Waldron Designs, we begin the design process with an introductory meeting in our office or via Zoom. It is important that our clients are happy with the services we offer, have realistic expectations, and understand what we offer as a firm.

Our process differs with each client, but we have developed some great 'checkpoints' to make sure we've hit all the key points.

Step 1:

During our initial interview, we will cover the scope of the project in detail. We also will discuss, budget, style preferences, and timeline. This initial meeting takes place in our office or via Zoom, providing us the opportunity of meeting in person so that we may interact with everyone who may be involved in your project.

Sometimes owners want to hit the bare minimum cost to spend on their project. If it is a bare minimum project, we may not be the right fit. We do not just provide plans, we create and curate designer spaces.

Step 2:

We will confirm our understanding of the scope of work in an email. Once we are all confirmed to be on the same page, an agreement for services will be sent for approval. We do not visit the site until an agreement is in place.

We do have a few requirements before we sign an agreement:

Share this article with someone you care about who is looking for design serves. Or Pinterest... where we love a lot of people looking to get started!

  1. A clear budget must be set.

  2. Clear expectations must be communicated.

  3. All necessary information- research the client has done, dimensions and availability of existing pieces for the designer to review, requirements for users, etc. must be provided to the designer. It is never a good idea for us to get started with unknowns.

Step 3:

We will plan a visit to your home to document the existing space through measurements and photography.

We then assemble this information into a “program document”, a living document that is used for the duration of your project to ensure that we are consistently referring to your goals and referring to new data as it is uncovered.

Step 4:

Our next step will be to gauge an understanding of your long-term and short-term goals for the space, your passions, and your lifestyle so that we can develop and execute a design plan that suits your needs.

Over the years, we went from jumping right into offering an in-home consultation, then a phone consultation, and today we do a free 30-minute project feasibility meeting in our office. In order to book this consultation, a short questionnaire must be filled out. There are a few reasons we require this:

  1. Set a realistic understanding that a design project requires participation and work from both parties.

  2. Gather important information- is the budget realistic? Is the timeline realistic? What are we starting off with? What are the expectations?

  3. Save time in the consultation and provide us with written information directly from the homeowner- preventing any confusion.

The in-office consultation gives our potential clients the opportunity to see the office and meet the team that will be a regular part of the design interaction.

Rachel Waldron

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
