Through the Years, Waldron Designs: Interiors, Architecture, Construction

Our firm has grown quite a bit, particularly in the last year, and we thought a fun way to see the growth would be through a photo timeline!

2015

2013

Waldron Designs is launched in an unconditioned garage. Rachel Waldron is the sole operator and is able to work about two hours a week, with the help of this adorable sidekick (then four years old), and an infant in tow.

In this first year, we completed the project that would earn us the 2014 ASID Design Award!

In 2015, Waldron Designs relocated from West Seattle to Vashon Island. After one year on the island, our first intern, the talented Mary McGinnis, joined the team! We worked in a spare bedroom and spread samples around the house, much to Sean’s, Rachel’s husband, chagrin.

Chagrin aside, the following year, we were named one of the top Seattle Designers by well-known blog, Freshome!

2017

Needing a space to keep samples without causing Sean Waldron stress, Waldron Designs set up in an artist’s studio in town (now Vashon Crossfit!)

This year, we received the honor of another design award, for our Westside Farmhouse design.

2019

Foreseeing growth, Rachel moved the office to The Vashon Villages, which provided two additional offices. We rented one of the offices and maintained one intern working in this space. Moving into this office gave us more freedom to host First Fridays and build on our community engagement!

2018

While our first space offered an opportunity for making a bit of a mess and storing our samples, it was not much of a meeting space. A short year later, Waldron Designs relocated to the Landing Building (where Ruby Brink is) and worked somewhat comfortably for a few years, maintaining one intern off and on.

2021

Waldron Designs becomes a general contractor, and starts off hiring three employees. After just a few months, two more employees were added. By the time this photo was taken, we had eight employees and completed our first full home renovation!

As if hiring several employees and opening up a whole new avenue for business wasn’t enough, Rachel decided to become certified this year as a Living in Place Professional!

2021 and Beyond…

In all honesty, the photo below was taken right around 2017 or 2018 when Sean Waldron began working with us on the side from time to time. During this time, he continued his full-time career at Miller Hull, helping us as he could. This image has added meaning as of 2021.

Waldron Designs welcomed Sean as a full-time architect and we are thrilled to begin offering full-service home design. Architecture, interiors, and construction services are now a part of our repertoire and skill to build on.

Sean is a registered architect and is LEED AP certified. Projects you may recognize that he worked on with Miller Hull include the Pike Place expansion and the UW Pop Health building.

And our team is still growing, in under one month, our intern Ryan Ross will be returning to assist with interiors for the summer. He then will return full-time in the summer of 2022 as a fully degreed designer.

With the addition of Sean and Ryan, we are 15 people strong and do not anticipate any further major immediate growth. Our goal right now is to perfect what we have, bring an estimator on staff (we currently outsource), learn the ins and outs of general contracting, managing a crew, and providing our expanded services to Vashon Island.

For safe, healthy, and sustainable homes, please reach out to us to discuss your project. We look forward to using our passion to create your paradise.
