Design-Build

Oh my goodness… I suppose it is time to tell my big secret. Some of you, who receive my newsletter know the big news, but for the most part, we’ve kept things on the down-low.

Three months ago, Waldron Designs was a two-person firm. A designer and a designer-in-training. Today, Waldron Designs totes a crew of six, and we anticipate adding 2-3 more in the short term.

What, oh what could we be designing that requires six designers? Well, that’s the big secret… we aren’t hiring designers. We are hiring skilled tradespeople. Two project supervisors and two carpenters have been added to our team. Formal introductions to come soon, I promise.

Because some of these amazing people are still holding up their side gigs, we are waiting to make the formal introductions until they are full-time staff. What I will say officially though, is that…

Waldron Designs is now a Design-Build Firm.

Take a peek at the bottom of our page for our license number (this number is linked to the LNI page that verifies our license. Use this page to verify any contractor or trade you work with!). We are official and gearing up to go. Before even announcing this to the public, we had lined up three jobs and have more coming in. My initial plan was to wait to unveil this and let the information travel via word-of-mouth.

In the images shown above, we are thrilled to team up with a general contractor that we have worked with many times in the past, who was wonderful enough to bring us on while the crew waits for me to finish up some design work! Thank you Trace Baron Construction!

I am confident based on years of working with contractors and serving as the sounding board for my client’s frustrations- we can offer the best service you will find.

My promise to my crew and my clients:

  • Respect: We do not solve conflicts by yelling at our crew. Our crew is valuable, and we insist on taking only the best care of them. Our crew is paid well, and full-time crew will receive benefits. For this reason, our estimates will never be the lowest ones out there. We are not looking to beat out others based on cost. We ARE looking to provide a team of people who enjoy their work and are proud to be a part of the crew.

We respect that we are in a home and that we are causing serious disruption to our client’s lives. We will try to make this disruption as minimal as possible.

  • Budget Consideration: We will not promise the lowest cost and exceed budgets with surprise invoices. We always try to anticipate the highest costs and issue change orders when unanticipated needs arise.

  • Realistic Timelines: We will not take a project if we know that we cannot meet your deadline. We understand that this is a disruption to our client’s privacy and lifestyle, and we will treat it as such, with utter respect.

  • Communication: The first thing I did was to invest in the best software so that budgets can be shared, progress photos seen, and clear agreements shared with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. It does mean that we have a bit of a technology learning curve, but I think we’re managing quite well!

  • Safety: We commit to holding all the required safety meetings, and providing a customized safety plan (which includes a COVID safety plan) for each project. We will always post required documents, and will consistently provide safety inspections.

  • Design is first: We will always be a design firm first. We respect the need for quick, inexpensive build services. We are not the crew for those services. Our goal will always be to provide the utmost quality, consideration, and design expertise in order to make your dream a reality.

  • Only Friendly Competition: We do not put down our competition and are grateful for those in the industry who have helped us to get to this place. We don’t toe-step or “steal” jobs. We offer only the utmost respect to our colleagues in the field.

Are you looking for a design-build project? We are currently accepting projects large and small. We are most capable at managing mid-to-high-end projects. Our crew is currently small, but we have momentum and energy in this crew and I have no doubt we could take on anything!

Rachel Waldron

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
