Cozying Up to Winter: Embracing Hygge in Your Interior Spaces

As the chilly winds sweep through the Pacific Northwest, it's the perfect time to snuggle up and make our homes a warm haven. Today, we're diving into the art of embracing the colder season with a touch of Hygge – that delightful Danish concept that celebrates coziness, warmth, and well-being. So grab a cup of your favorite warm beverage and let's chat about how to bring some Hygge magic into your living spaces!

1. Layered Textiles:

Imagine being curled up on the couch with a soft blanket, a good book, and the rain tapping gently on your windows. Sounds dreamy, right? Well, it's all about the textiles. Layering blankets, throws, and cushions not only adds visual interest but also invites a tactile coziness that's perfect for winter. Opt for natural materials like wool and cotton for that extra touch of warmth.

2. Muted Neutral Colors:

Something is calming about the soft, muted tones that winter brings. Embrace a palette of neutrals – think warm grays, soft creams, and soothing beiges. These colors create a serene backdrop, making your space feel like a tranquil retreat from the brisk outdoor weather.

3. Handmade Items for Display:

Infuse your interior spaces with a personal touch by incorporating handmade items. Whether it's a hand-thrown ceramic mug, a woven basket, or a knitted throw pillow, these unique pieces not only tell a story but also add warmth and character to your home. While Etsy can (or was) a good resource for handmade goods, we like to first focus on our local farmer’s market and arts centers! Not only will we find handmade items, but they have the local connection and story to go with them.

4. Embrace Vintage Vibes:

Vintage finds have a timeless appeal, don't they? Incorporating vintage furniture or decor pieces into your space can create a sense of nostalgia and charm. Hunt for treasures at local thrift stores or explore vintage markets in the Pacific Northwest – you never know what gem you might discover!

5. Sustainability First:

Of course, our love for sustainable design is always at the forefront. Choose eco-friendly and locally sourced materials when updating your space. Consider repurposing existing furniture or giving it a new lease on life with a fresh coat of paint. Sustainable choices not only benefit the environment but also contribute to the overall warmth of your home.

As you embark on your Hygge journey this winter, keep in mind that it's all about creating a space that feels like a warm hug. So, let's celebrate the colder season, layer on those textiles, surround ourselves with handmade and vintage delights, and, of course, do it all with a sustainable twist.

Stay warm and cozy, Waldron Designs friends! Until next time.

Rachel Waldron

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
