Before and After: Chautauqua Beach Residence

I met this homeowner in the winter of 2014, just days before Christmas. They had recently purchased a summer home on the island and needed major remodel work to be designed and completed by June 1st. It was an exhilarating project, with the dynamic of designing the new space while the contractors worked on ripping out the old elements.

The journey featured careful planning and collaboration to ensure every detail met the homeowner's vision and the timeline. As the project progressed, it became clear that this space would offer not just functionality but also a true sense of home for summer gatherings.

Progress photos capture the transformation, and while there are several more images to share, here are some early glimpses into the renovation. Special thanks to Catie Bergman for the stunning photography; her talent shines through in each shot, showcasing the space beautifully.

The transformation of the space involved updating key elements to enhance functionality and aesthetic appeal. First, the wood stove surround was removed, opening up the area and eliminating an unnecessary heat source. This change allowed for a more modern look and improved the flow of the room.

Next, a fresh color palette was introduced to replace the dated tones, creating a brighter and more inviting atmosphere. The kitchen layout was revitalized to maximize its potential. New cabinetry was installed, featuring modern designs and finishes that complemented the updated color scheme.

To enhance the lighting, additional fixtures and strategic use of natural light were incorporated, making the space feel larger and more connected to the rest of the home. Overall, the renovation not only improved the kitchen's functionality but also brought a renewed sense of warmth and style to the heart of the home.
