Upon entering this property, one is struck by the territorial view of Quartermaster Harbor with the Olympic Range in the distance. So, when this client came to us with the request for additional living space, the goals became clear: answer the client request and maintain the greatest asset of this site. To achieve this, the team designed a sibling for the original home and introduced a second language for the connection between the two. Not only did this move provide the necessary increase in space while preserving the view, but it benefited the project in a third way. The shifted plan resulted in two more formalized exterior spaces - one to curate and appreciate and one to occupy

The stepped or shifting plan created two new exterior spaces. On the north, a new entry and garden were made possible while an elevated deck became the focus of the south. The north is more aloof to protect the clients’ privacy while a more direct connection between interior and exterior spaces is celebrated.
