Sustainable Splendor: How to Make Your Entire Home Eco-Friendly

Hey there, Waldron Designs crew! Today, we're rolling up our sleeves and delving into the wonderfully green world of sustainable home design. If you're gearing up for a full-home interior renovation, why not make it an eco-friendly extravaganza? Let's chat about how you can turn your entire abode into a haven of sustainability.

1. Start with Materials that Mother Nature Approves Of

You’d never know that this wood counter used to be bowling alley flooring!

Think reclaimed wood, bamboo, and locally sourced finishes. These materials not only add character to your space but also contribute to the well-being of our planet.

2. Let There Be (Energy-Efficient) Light

Shed some light on your eco-conscious journey by opting for LED bulbs and fixtures. They not only last longer but also consume less energy, giving you those good vibes without the guilt.

3. Embrace Nature Indoors

Bring the outdoors in! Not only does it freshen up your space, but it also improves air quality. A touch of greenery with low-maintenance indoor plants can do wonders.

4. The Magic of Multi-Purpose Spaces

With a teen and a tween in the house, we have found that versatility is key. Whether you have children, visiting relatives, or simply want to plan for your own different life stages, flexibility is beneficial. Design spaces that can adapt to changing needs—a study nook today could easily transform into a meditation corner tomorrow.

5. Upcycling: Where Old Meets Bold

When we can’t Reduce, we Reuse, right? Turn your renovation into a treasure hunt by incorporating upcycled furniture and decor. An old door becomes a rustic dining table, and suddenly, your home tells a story.

6. Invest in Smart Systems

Technology can be eco-friendly too! Explore smart home features that optimize energy usage. Smart thermostats, energy-efficient appliances—the future is both tech-savvy and green.

7. Eco-Friendly Paints: More Color, Less Toxins

Opt for paints with low or zero VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). You get to play with colors without compromising air quality.

Remember, sustainable design isn't just about the environment; it's about creating a home that nurtures your family. So, as you embark on this green journey, enjoy every step, and let your home reflect the beauty of thoughtful living.

Rachel Waldron

Waldron Designs was founded by Rachel Waldron (that’s me!). in 2013.

I am so happy designing that it is not unusual to catch me in a giggle as I rev up to do my work. I think of my designs the way that I think of my children- each is unique and has their own personality. It is my job to nurture them and help them grow, not define them.

I got my bachelor's degree in interior design from Washington State University - a CIDA-accredited school - in 2005, immediately moved into a leadership position and have continued designing with passion.

I received my MBA in Marketing in 2012 and launched Waldron Designs in 2013. When I am not designing, you will find me enjoying my precious time with my husband and two spectacular children.
