Sustainable Renovations Unveiled
At Waldron Designs, we believe in turning dreams into reality while keeping our planet in mind. The dilemma? Eager to update their home but worried about the environmental impact of demolition and construction.
Embracing Sustainability in Every Brick
A Concerned Homeowner Speaks:
"We are eager to update our home, but worry about sustainable demolition and building. I don’t want to contribute to construction waste in our landfills.”
Sustainability has always been important to us. So much so, that it has held us back from completing our own projects. We know that construction contributes to 33% of the world’s waste, so how do we prevent additional waste? As Living Future Members working toward accreditation, we are learning new ways every day to salvage and reuse items from renovations, and we’re happy to find solutions for your existing space while reducing demolition.
Embark on a journey with us as we explore innovative solutions for sustainable renovations, reducing waste, and creating a space that harmonizes with the planet.
Beyond Demolition: Innovative Building Practices
1. Salvage and Reuse:
At Waldron Designs, we believe in the power of giving new life to existing materials. Collaborate with us to identify items that can be repurposed in your updated space, reducing the need for new resources. Keep in mind that while this is always an ideal, it isn’t always possible to code and with liability. For example, a perfectly good mirror is often unable to be reused by a glass company, because of the risks of working with degraded glass. Similarly, salvaged lighting and plumbing fixtures are often not UL-Rated. We want to be eco-friendly, but also keep a mind toward safety and reliability!
This doesn’t mean those items cannot be sold in salvage retailers, such as EarthWise and Second Use
2. Mindful Deconstruction:
Forget the wrecking ball! Consider a meticulous deconstruction approach that preserves valuable materials for reuse. It's a hands-on way to minimize waste and contribute to a circular economy. When we develop our drawings, we provide notes to the contractor about items to salvage, preserve, and donate.
3. Sustainable Materials:
We're well-versed in the importance of sustainable materials, and have access to great tools to help us find more that we are not yet aware of. Working with our reps ensures that we have product experts at our fingertips to ensure that every product meets our sustainability requirements. Let's explore options that align with your eco-conscious goals, from stunning flooring and sustainable counters to eco-friendly fixtures.
4. Carbon Offsetting:
Introducing a new tool that has us brimming with excitement! Carbon offsetting takes a small fee, aiming for a contribution from all involved parties—owner, builder, and designer—to offset the carbon incurred in the construction of your space. Our ambitious goal is to offset every built project, ensuring we leave a positive impact on the environment.
As kindred spirits in sustainable design, we're eager to collaborate and share our expertise. Together, let's create a home that not only meets your design aspirations but also sets a benchmark for environmentally conscious living.
Let's Make Your Vision a Reality
Your concerns are valid, and we see them as opportunities for positive change. Our team is excited about the prospect of working with you to create a home that reflects your values and contributes to a more sustainable future.
Join us on this journey, and let's build a home that speaks to your heart and the well-being of our planet.
