Living in Place

Waldron Designs owner and designer, Rachel Waldron, recently became certified as a Living in Place Professional. It is important to note that this is not an “Aging in Place” certification, but LIVING in Place. While we feel strongly that homes should be tailored to our client’s needs and desires, we also feel that all homes should provide flexibility for a multitude of users: young, old, tall, short, with and without physical limitations, and beyond.

For example, all doors should ideally have a 36” clear opening. This not only accommodates a wheelchair, but it also allows a parent to pass through while holding their child. Any homeowner can appreciate walking through a wider door while holding bags of groceries, or returning home from a trip, right?

A Living in Place professional also has a network of certified specialists in many fields- this includes physical therapists, doctors, occupational therapists, and more! This allows us to utilize these resources and connections to ensure that your design thoroughly considers the well-being of all current and future occupants!
