Design Consultations for Real Estate

We’ve had introductory meetings with several potential clients who are enthusiastic about remodeling their new homes but, after doing some digging, then find out that the dreams for their new home aren’t possible. Of course, it can be heartbreaking to the new owners and, honestly, we hate delivering bad news like that. If only we all had done that research earlier!

The reality is that we can all be more proactive in our efforts and we’re writing this article in that spirit. We want you to think of us as a resource - even before you purchase the home you may want to modify. We have the skills and knowledge to advise on whether you can make your dream project a reality.

Certainly, your real estate agent or broker is immensely valuable and we would never pretend to be a substitute for their experience and skills. However, we can fill in any gaps in information or even provide more open-ended ideas regarding potential purchases. As designers, we’re primarily problem-solvers and we can ideally provide solid answers to your questions but can also provide additional context that may clarify any risks associated with particular homes or properties. Here are a few examples of some topics we’re typically approached with (for new homes/properties):

A One-Time Consultation.

There are many layers to this service, but the most basic is a simple walkthrough and verbal discussion. We can discuss the average range of project types (and send a follow-up email for those we don’t have at the forefront of our minds).

Identification of Building Constraints.

This is a fairly quick service (we try to save you money by stopping when we find the answer- feasible or not. We can jump into county records and identify any immediate constraints that may limit these goals.

Furniture Plans.

Have you ever moved into a newly purchased home to find that your existing furnishings do not work in the new space?

Living In Place Analysis.

It is important that all ages and abilities are able to move comfortably and function in a living space. We can review potential for modifications and existing livability in terms of mobility, accessibility, and healthy design.

Among So Much More!

Providing feedback for these commonly asked questions has helped numerous agents and prospective buyers in their hunt for the perfect home. However, our input can encompass so much more. We’d encourage you, as an agent or potential homebuyer, to reach out and discuss whether you could leverage our services to help you find a place that could evolve into your paradise!
